Globalization Impact on My Life

Being a highly developed nation, America has many global corporations that interact with other countries all over the world. Even though I have not been directly involved in a global corporation, globalization has still had an impact on my life as an American citizen.

In business, globalization refers to an international trade of goods and services. I have benefited from goods produced in other countries and imported into the United States in a variety of ways. For example, many of the cars that my family and I have used originated in Japan and Germany. In addition, nearly all of my clothes that I have ever worn were made in other countries. These are just some of the products that I use in my everyday life that I have access to as a result of globalization in business.

One of the benefits of globalization in business is that it allows for products to be sold at low prices to consumers. This is usually a result of cheap labor costs in  other countries such as China. The cheap labor cost leads to low prices on products and I am therefore able to purchase more with little money.

In addition to business, globalization can also refer to world communication. I am able to have access to world news and events almost instantly due to globalization. Since the idea of the internet has spread throughout the world and world communication is as good and fast as ever before,  I can look at the news on the internet and see world events that happened that very day. I am also able to enjoy viewing world events including the Sochi Winter Olympics and the World Cup in Brazil this past summer. The advances in globalized communication allow me to be more informed on and even entertained by world events.

Lastly, globalization can refer to the worldwide sharing and spreading of any ideas to improve areas in the world. An example of this that has impacted my life is the spread of the gospel. Missionaries are sent to "globalize" the gospel so everyone can know of the truth and have a better life. My grandpa, who grew up in the Netherlands was a fortunate recipient of the gospel when he was fourteen and he therefore joined the church and emigrated to America. It is because of this form of globalization that I am alive in America today as a member of the church.

Each of these forms of globalization have had a profound impact on my life. This shows me that globalization is not an abstract idea that has nothing to do with me, but it is very real and relevant in my life.
